This fun and whimsical chalkboard doodles fabric was purchased as part of a preorder run by Simply Swanky Fabrics on Facebook. The cotton lycra is thick and soft, and was very easy to work with!
The coordinating rainbow stripes provided a fun contrast on the lining of the dress, as well as on the knit shorts.
One of our tried and true favorites for knit twirl dresses is Adelyn by Simple Life Pattern Co. It is a super fast sew with ultra twirl factor. We omitted the back bow ties in order to make this a quick sew for a busy Momma :)
The shorts were created using the Lennon Bubble Shorts woven pattern by Violette Field Threads. However, I altered it for knits by removing the lining and adding waist and leg bands based on my daughter's measurements.
Tips for Working with Knits
When sewing knits, I always use my Brother Serger and Maxi Lock Stretch Thread in the loopers. It makes a huge difference in the quality of the seams and their recovery! Coordinating maxi lock (nonstretch) thread is used in the needles.
To finish serger threads, I use yarn darning needles to thread the loose ends back into the seams before cutting.
